The International President, having been elected to the International Board of Directors by the MBHA membership for a 3-year term, is then elected by the Board of Directors to serve in the Corporate Officer position of International President for one year. 

He/She serves as: the Corporate Officer at all Corporate meetings; the official representative at the BHS and SAI conventions; mentor to the Executive Committee for succession planning purposes. 

The International President is: Chair of the Executive Committee; an Ex-Officio member of every committee except the Nominating Committee; and a member of the Finance Committee. 

He/She facilitates scheduled Executive Committee, Finance Committee and BOD teleconferences. 

The International President sets direction and vision for the corporation in concert with the BOD. (The International President may serve no more than three consecutive 1-year terms in the same office. 

Immediately following the expiration of his/her term as International President, he/she shall automatically become an Ex-Officio to the Board of Directors for not more than three (3) years.

 

General 
• Serve as an elected Board Director, elected to the position by the MBHA membership
• Serve on the Executive Committee. 
• Function according to the Corporate Bylaws. 
• Actively participate in discussions and decisions of the BOD. 
• Review daily email to stay current with issues, concerns, information and requests for information. 
• Supplies and materials relevant to completion of the duties of the position are reimbursable. Submit appropriate documentation and Requests for Payment to the Treasurer at least bimonthly. 
• Respond to all correspondence within three (3) days of receipt 
• Maintain and organize relevant information and emails and backup to the provided cloud-based storage 
• Copy in the Executive Committee on relevant email communication. 
• Encourage and/or congratulate prospective and newly-registered ensembles. 
• Send information for posting on the MBHA website to the Website Manager, with copies to the Director of Communications, and Executive Secretary. 
• Chair the By-laws and Rules committee. Maintain the current edition of the by-laws.
• Assist in preparing an annual budget. 
• Chair meetings in the absence of the President.
• Assist Executive Secretary in creating agenda for annual board and membership meetings.
• Arrange for virtual meetings as required
• Other duties as assigned. 
Committees 
• Be a member of the Executive Committee (Members include the International President, Chair, Vice President, Treasurer). 
• Be a member of the Finance Committee. (Members include the International President, Vice-President and the Immediate Past President. The Executive Secretary is a non-voting member of the committee.) 
• Participate in bi-monthly Executive/Finance Committee teleconferences. 

A typical yearly cycle of duties may look something like this:
January 
Before Midwinter Board Meeting
• Review the agenda for the meeting and be prepared to present items assigned to you, and to discuss other items on the agenda. 
• Attend the Midwinter Meeting of the International Board of Directors. 
• Organize files on the provided cloud-based storage. Forward important original correspondence to the Executive Secretary for the permanent files of the Corporation.
February
• Review changes in duties, as enacted by the BOD, and update the job description. Forward the revised job description to the Immediate Past President who will review it and forward it to the Manual Chairman. 
April - May
• Submit recommendations for BOD consideration at the Summer Meeting by completing Submit Agenda Items form. Adhere to the due date and distribute copies as directed on the form; send a copy to your supervisor. 
• Review the agenda for the Summer Meeting and be prepared to present items assigned to you and to discuss other items on the agenda. 
• Contact the Assistants who report to you to ensure that their annual report is completed and sent to the Executive Secretary 
June - July 
• Provide an electronic copy of all report(s) as requested by the Executive Secretary. 
• Attend the Summer Meeting of the International Board of Directors. 
After Meeting 
Board Members responsibilities for their respective positions begin immediately following the close of the meeting. There is a necessary transition time for the outgoing director to complete “items in progress” and review status of unfinished business with a goal of completely transferring all remaining job responsibilities by August 1. 
• Review the minutes of the Summer meeting and begin any projects assigned to you. 
• Write a short bio and forward it to the website manager by August 1 for posting on the webpage 
• Inform the Assistants who report to you of assignments generated at the Annual Meeting
• Introduce yourself to the Board Members and Assistants informing them that you will be working with them in the coming year. 
• Review information included on provided cloud-based storage for the position. Organize files and information to store new information in the coming year. 
• Review and familiarize yourself with the job descriptions and duties of the Assistants who report to you. 
August 
• Submit budget requests to the Finance Committee. 
• Remind reporting Assistants to submit budget requests to the Finance Committee.
September - November 
• Submit recommendations for BOD consideration at the Midwinter Meeting by completing Submit Agenda Items. Adhere to the due date and distribute copies as directed on the form; send a copy to your supervisor.
